We look at five quality improvement tools that are widely used in psychiatric settings and that now appear regularly in MRCPsych examinations. The five tools are: the fishbone diagram, the Pareto chart, the run chart, the driver diagram, and the control chart or SPC chart. For each tool we will look at its purpose, its structure, and what makes it visually and conceptually distinct from the others.
